Last weekend, our congregation at Home of Jesus the King Church came together for a heartfelt and joyous celebration to honor the mothers in our church community. It was a special time of thanksgiving, reflection, and appreciation for the vital role that mothers play not only in their families but also in the life of the Church.
Throughout Scripture, we see that mothers hold a place of great significance in God’s plan. They are nurturers, intercessors, and strong pillars of faith in their homes and communities. The Bible is filled with examples of godly mothers who shaped history through their obedience and trust in the Lord. One such mother is Yocheved, the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. Moses was called to shepherd the people of Israel, Aaron served as High Priest, while Miriam was called as Worship Leader for the people. Her story reminds us of the profound influence a mother has on future generations.
Exodus 2:1-10 recounts Yocheved’s bravery and faith. At a time when Pharaoh commanded that all Hebrew baby boys be cast into the Nile, Yocheved defied the decree, hiding Moses for three months. When she could no longer conceal him, she placed him in a basket and set it afloat on the river, trusting God with his life. Through divine intervention, Pharaoh’s daughter discovered and adopted him, and in God’s providence, Yocheved was chosen to nurse and raise her own son during his early years. Her unwavering trust in the Lord not only saved Moses but set into motion God’s plan for Israel’s deliverance.
Hebrews 11:23 further affirms Yocheved’s faith: “By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.” This scripture underscores that her boldness came from her deep faith in God’s purposes, rather than fear of earthly rulers.
Pastor Saleem encouraged all the mothers present, emphasizing their crucial role in the Church. He reminded them that just as Yocheved’s faith shaped the destiny of a nation, so too do the prayers, guidance, and sacrifices of mothers shape the future of the Church. He declared, “Moses was a great prophet, but without Yocheved, who defied Pharaoh’s command, there would have been no Exodus.”
As a token of appreciation, each mother in attendance received beautiful gifts, including cutlery sets, flowers, and pink magnets engraved with the words of Proverbs 31, celebrating the virtuous woman. This act of love symbolized our gratitude for their tireless efforts, their wisdom, and the love they pour into their families and the Church.
It was a truly blessed time of fellowship, joy, and recognition of the remarkable women God has placed among us. As we move forward, may we continue to uplift and encourage the mothers in our church, recognizing that through them, God is building strong families and a thriving spiritual community.
We thank God for our mothers and pray that He continues to strengthen and bless them as they fulfill their divine calling!
