This past week we started a very special discipleship course geared towards the preparation of those who will be taking up leadership roles at Home of Jesus the King Church. From the Word of God we see how important it is for future leaders to be equipped and for their gifting to be developed for the glory of God.

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” – Ephesians 4:11-13

We believe that the church is like a university where believers are discipled and trained, but then they need to be sent out into the fields where the work of the Kingdom awaits them. Instilling discipline is also an important part of raising up new leaders, because from the Bible we learn that lack of discipline in God’s leaders can lead to mistake that can destroy a nation.

In the book of Judges we see how Joshua didn’t prepare any leaders, despite his own wonderful ministry. The Bible mentions four times in the book of Judges that everyone was simply doing what they saw as good in their own eyes. This was a recipe for disaster, for as we also read in Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.”

And thus through our discipleship course we are working with these fifteen leaders to be molded into responsible and disciplined leaders who can effectively help and teach others in Israel, and not be like those in the book of judges who failed, but to be godly leaders who follow after God’s own heart.

Here in Israel we know that revival is on the way, for the Bible speaks of it, even though we don’t exactly know when that time will be. We do however rejoice at the prospect of it, and we also  recognize the urgency of being prepared, and preparing others for it, so that our lamps might be filled with oil when the Master returns. Hallelujah!
