Road Signs on the Path of Life

As one year ends and another begins, many of us reflect on the events that happened in our lives throughout the year.

Just as there are road signs and traffic lights that serve as guides, as well as warnings, there are also road signs placed on our path by the Lord, so we can examine ourselves, whether we’re on the right path, perhaps make a turn and change our route while there’s still time. The Lord continually reminds us to return to Him, which is the right path in life.

Whenever we arrive at a traffic light that tells us to stop, we always stop. When the Lord tells us to stop what we are doing, we need to stop completely.

There might be sin we’ve fallen into, an unhealthy habit that we need to break, or a wrong path we took: that’s when the Lord puts a stop sign in front of us. This sign may be in the form of a specific problem, illness, loss of a person, material loss — things that make us feel as though our life path is on pause. However the Lord wants you to stop at that moment and look around you, perhaps you are going in the wrong direction, perhaps there is danger continuing on the same path you’re on.

Then I pray to the Lord according to Psalm 119:37:

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.

While you’re driving, maybe you spot a road sign indicating to slow down, the same happens in our lives. We encounter these road signs that tell us we need to slow down, be cautious, wait a bit.

It might upset us to encounter these road signs and seem like they’re hindering our progress when we just want to advance as fast as we can, but they are there for a reason, it’s in our best interest to heed these warnings and use patience because it will bear wonderful fruit.

I advise you to listen to the Lord. Take your time when making important decisions, such as choosing a life partner, work, or education. The Lord might place different road signs in the form of a person guiding you, a word from the Bible, a hindrance, or a delay, it’s important to recognize these road signs and know they are there for your benefit, not to harm you.

Hear the Lord when He says:

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Psalm 37:7

As we continue on our path in life, pay attention to the road signs that indicate to give way. They are there for a reason. There are things in our lives that we must make a priority and give way to.

Another important road sign is in Matthew 6:33:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

When we prioritize God above all things in our lives, we will know then to recognize the road signs along the way. We will know when to slow down and when to stop.

When we don’t pay attention to road signs, we risk getting a ticket. This transgression may come in the form of discipline because the Lord disciplines those He loves.

Listen to the Lord as he says in Psalm 32:8:

I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”

May you have a blessed new year! May you be an even bigger blessing to people around you!
