It was such a privilege to visit and bless the Caritas Children’s Hospital and Orphanage in Bethlehem this past Friday. This institution is run by Catholic nuns who do incredible work to raise and care for abandoned babies in Bethlehem. Very often the little ones are simply left at the gates of the hospital by parents who do not want them, or simply can’t afford to raise them. It’s a terrible ordeal for a child to be abandoned by their parents, but thank God for people like the nuns at Caritas.
When our team arrived at the hospital we were warmly received by the nuns and staff members, and we started unpacking wholesale food hampers, children’s clothing, shoes, and diapers for the children in their care. Not only do they take care of babies and children abandoned by nominal Christian families, but also those abandoned by Muslim families.
Here at Caritas the children get a new chance at life, and are taken care of with love and compassion. The nuns could hardly believe that we came all the way to Bethlehem to bless them and help them with humanitarian aid. Afterwards we received a lovely letter from the nuns to thank us on behalf of Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem that oversees Caritas. It was so touching to read, and we included it here below for you to read.
One of the things the Bible commands us is to take care of widows and the orphans, as we can see from James 1:27 – “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
Here at Home of Jesus the King Church we want to fulfill this command to be peacemakers and bridge builders in Israel. We want to continue helping these babies and children, and so we invite you to partner with us in supplying diapers, shoes, clothing, and wholesale food hampers to these dear ones. Together we can make a real difference!
