These days across Israel, life has taken on a rhythm no one chooses—long nights, sudden sirens, and families moving quickly into bomb shelters, sometimes for hours, sometimes for the entire night. For many, it is not only fear they are carrying, but deep exhaustion. Parents are doing their best to comfort anxious children, elderly men and women sit for long stretches without rest, and in many shelters, there is simply no place to lie down.
It is a quiet kind of hardship, but a very real one—and we are seeing it up close.
Through our partnership with the Nof HaGalil municipality, we recently had the opportunity to respond in a very practical way. Together with local representatives, including Tomer and Maxim, we delivered a large shipment of mattresses to the city. What may seem like a simple delivery was, in reality, something much deeper—a moment of trust, a moment of unity, a picture of what can happen when people come together in the middle of difficulty with a shared purpose: to care for those in need.
As Tomer shared with us what they are witnessing daily, the reality became even clearer. Families are arriving at shelters with nothing to rest on. Many are too afraid to return home during the night, choosing instead to remain in these spaces until morning. For the elderly, for young children, and for those already vulnerable, this becomes especially difficult. And in that moment, something as simple as a mattress changes everything—it brings comfort, it allows the body to rest, and it gives people the strength to endure the night.
Through this project, we are helping provide 500 mattresses that are now being distributed throughout shelters in the region. Alongside this, we continue to provide coffee and tea sets—small touches that carry great meaning, bringing warmth, dignity, and a sense of normalcy into places that otherwise feel uncertain. But what touched us most deeply was not only the need—it was what is happening between people. As we worked side by side, there was a shared understanding that this is not about one group helping another. This is about standing together. Jewish and Arab Israelis, working shoulder to shoulder, serving the same communities, responding to the same reality. One phrase that was shared with us stayed in our hearts: the rockets do not choose between Jew and Arab—we are all under the same fire.
And in that reality, something powerful is taking place.
We are not only delivering mattresses—we are building relationships. Trust is growing. Barriers are being lowered. What we are witnessing is real coexistence, not as an idea, but as a lived experience—people from different backgrounds, faiths, and communities coming together with a shared purpose to care, to serve, and to carry one another in a time of need. In the middle of war, something unexpected is emerging: unity. This is what it means to be one family. Every mattress placed in a shelter is more than practical help—it is a testimony that compassion is stronger than division, and that even in the darkest moments, the love of God is still moving—quietly, faithfully, and powerfully—through acts of care that people can see and feel.
