The Sea of Galilee—called the Kinneret in Hebrew because its shape looks like a violin—is a place filled with amazing stories from the Bible. It’s a beautiful, peaceful lake, but because of its unique location, storms can come out of nowhere, turning calm waters into crashing waves in an instant.
That’s exactly what happened in Matthew 8:23-26, Mark 4:36-41, and Luke 8:22-25. Yeshua (Jesus) and His disciples were in a boat when a sudden storm hit. The waves were huge, and the disciples were terrified. But where was Yeshua? Asleep! In their panic, they woke Him up, and He simply spoke—and the storm stopped. Complete calm. Just like that.
This wasn’t just an amazing miracle; it was proof of who He really is.
The Bible tells us in Jeremiah:
This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord Almighty is his name.
Jeremiah 31:35
And in the Psalms:
You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
Psalm 89:9
These verses talk about God’s power over nature—and Yeshua fulfilled them right there on the Kinneret. That storm wasn’t random. It was a moment meant to reveal His authority over all things, even the wind and waves.
A lot of us can relate to how the disciples felt that day. Life gets stormy, things feel out of control, and sometimes it seems like Yeshua is “asleep” while we’re struggling. But the truth is, He’s always with us. He’s in the boat. He’s not worried, and He’s got the power to calm whatever storm we’re facing.
The key is trusting Him—even when things look scary.
Recently, I had the chance to see the Kinneret in the middle of a storm, and it was incredible. It was a reminder that the same Yeshua who calmed the waters 2,000 years ago is the same one we follow today. No matter what we’re going through, He is in control.
So whatever storm you might be facing right now, take heart. He’s with you, and He’s got you. Trust Him, and He’ll bring you through it.
