Psalm 71:9 – “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails.”

In today’s world we often see the older generation forgotten and neglected, despite the fact that they are the ones who went before us, and treaded paths in which we ourselves now walk. This is especially true when it comes to our grandparents, who raised our own parents, and who in turn raised us. We truly owe a great debt of gratitude to the elderly, and this festive season we decided to honor the elderly and to celebrate Christmas with them in the Israeli city of Haifa.

Our team went to one of the largest elderly homes in Haifa, where both Jewish and Arab senior citizens are being cared for, to bless them with sweet fellowship, Christmas presents containing toiletries and treats, as well as a musical performance. We also wanted to encourage them, and to lift their spirits by reminding them that “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” and that He loves them dearly. We needed them to know that you’re never to old to be a child of God and to receive his free gift of salvation, for which Jesus was born into this world.

Our celebration put big smiles on their faces, and we had a wonderful time with them all. They were so thankful to be shown love and given attention, and many of them had tears of thankfulness running down their faces. It felt like the time that we spent with them was as cold water unto a thirsty man. They were just so filled with joy, and even shocked, because we were Arab believers who came to bless them all, whether Jew or Arab, and to love them the same.

We know for a fact that we will return there often to continue our work there, as we sowed love and compassion into their lives, and we believe that God will bring forth a harvest unto salvation. The elderly and the staff were all so thankful for our visit, and presented us with a certificate of appreciation for the celebration and the gifts, as well as a lovely gift basket for Christmas. It was a wonderful time together, and we’re excited about our future work with elderly in our cities of Nazareth, Haifa and Nof HaGalil, for everybody, old and young, needs to experience God’s love and to hear His message of salvation. Amen!
