This past week, Pastor Saleem Shalash had the incredible opportunity to visit Italy on a special ministry trip. While in Rome, he shared powerful reflections from some of the most significant biblical and historical locations, connecting ancient events to the unchanging truth of God’s Word and His faithfulness today.
Standing in front of the ruins of the ancient Palatium—once the magnificent palace of Emperor Augustus Caesar—Pastor Saleem pointed out how this very place played a part in God’s divine plan. It was from here that Augustus gave the order for a census to be taken across the entire Roman Empire. That decree caused Joseph and Mary to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem, unknowingly fulfilling the ancient prophecy that the Messiah would be born there.
“Isn’t it amazing?” Pastor Saleem said. “God used the decision of a Roman emperor—someone who didn’t even know Him—to move history in the exact direction He had planned. Joseph didn’t just go to Bethlehem because of politics; he went because God was at work behind the scenes, fulfilling His promises.”
This powerful reminder of God’s sovereignty encouraged many who watched the video. Even today, when the world seems uncertain and chaotic, we can trust that God is still in control, just like He was back then.
Later, Pastor Saleem visited the church traditionally believed to be the site where the Apostle Peter was crucified. According to church tradition, Peter, out of humility, asked to be crucified upside down because he didn’t feel worthy to die in the same way as his Savior. While standing at this holy site, Pastor Saleem shared how Peter’s sacrifice and bold witness continue to inspire us today.
“Peter gave everything to follow Jesus,” Pastor Saleem said. “He came all the way from Jerusalem to Rome to share the Good News. From this very place, he helped bring many people into the Kingdom of God. He was a light in the darkness, a peacemaker, a bridge builder.”
He also took a moment to call believers to prayer—not just for Italy, but for the peace of Jerusalem, and for believers all over the world who are going through difficult times. He encouraged everyone to stand strong in their faith and continue sharing the hope of Jesus, no matter where they are.
“We need to be like Peter—bold, humble, and full of love,” he said. “Let’s pray for Italy, for the upcoming decisions about the next Pope, and for the believers here. And let’s always remember to pray for Israel and for Jerusalem.”
Pastor Saleem’s visit to Rome wasn’t just a trip through history—it was a powerful reminder that the same God who moved through emperors and apostles is still moving today. As he continues to travel and minister, we pray that God will keep using him to bring light, truth, and unity wherever he goes.
